Philosopher Peter Singer has written a new book by the name of The Life You Can Save, there is also an accompanying website www.thelifeyoucansave.com where visitors can pledge to up their giving to the world’s poor to levels that really make a difference.
27,000 children will die today in the developing world from preventable causes. We live in a world in which a billion people live on less than £1 a day and according to Peter Singer, and I’m inclined to agree with him, we could and should be doing a lot more to help.
We all spend money on things we don’t really need, drinks, meals out, clothing, movies, concerts, vacations, new cars or house renovation. Is it possible that by choosing to spend your money on such things rather than contributing to an aid agency, you are leaving a child to die, a child you could have saved?
I can recommend that you take a look at his website and if you’d like to give to a charity when why not mine: Women Without Roofs – Nepal (www.wwr-nepal.org), but of course there are plenty of others that are just as deserving.
