French Connection have responded to my letter very quickly and so perhaps are re-thinking their ways and want to give more priority within their business to ethical trade – or perhaps they just have a standard letter they print off for everyone who asks about it! Judge for yourself on the ‘French Conenction’ page under [...]

I have at last found time to write another letter to a High Street retailer to encourage them and find out more about their ethical policy. This time it was the turn of Fat Face.
Fat Face are members of ETI (the Ethical Trading Initiative) and have a practical and realistic ethical policy on their website: [...]

Coast have not responded to my letter and so I have concluded that ethical trading and producing fashion in a fair way is not an issue that concerns them. They are not members of ETI (Ethical trading Initiative) and neither do they have an ethical policy on their website. I have put them on my blacklist!
If [...]

I have just printed off my letter to Dorothy Perkins asking them about their commitment to ethical trade and the treatment of their workers in developing countries. On their website there is no ethical policy and they are not members of ETI (the Ethical Trading Initiative) which is disappointing. In the ‘Lets Clean up Fashion’ [...]

Boden have responded to the letter I wrote to them asking questions about how their garments are produced and whether they treat their workers ethically.
It is an honest response and gives an idea of the journey they are on to audit and make responsible every part of their supply chain. Boden are already members of [...]

Debenhams have an influential positoin on the British High Street as they not only sell their own clothing ranges, but also those of other designers such as: Jasper Conran, John Rocha, Betty Jackson, Julien MacDonald, Matthew Williamson, Pearce II Fionda, Ben De Lisi, Pip, Hackett and Ted Baker amongst others.
I have written to them to [...]

I have written to Coast about their ethical practices, they do not have an ethical policy on their website, nor are they signed up with the Ethical Trading Initiative. In the ‘Lets Clean up Fashion 2007′ report written by Labour behind the Label they are in the category of having ‘nothing to show’. There is a [...]

Boden have called me up to acknowledge receipt of my letter about ethical issues. I wasn’t in so the nice person left a message but it shows they are taking the issues seriously and they promise to get back to me with detailed answers to my questions soon. I’ll post them up here under ‘Responses [...]

I have written to Boots about their ethical practices, they are rather odd in that they are signed up with ETI (The Ethical trading Initiative) yet make no mention of an ethical policy on their website – you’d think they’d want to make more of the work they are doing with ETI. So I’ve told [...]
